Please note that this week’s troop meeting is Wednesday, May 9th at Mary C. Howse. There will not be a meeting today (Tuesday).
Troop 55 will be having a Family Fun Day and Spring Court of Honor at Oakbourne Park on Sunday, April 29th.
We will be at the pavilion from 3 PM to dusk. There are picnic tables under the pavilion, but bringing extra lawn chairs would be a good idea.
The Scouts will set up various activities at 4 PM, and all family members are encouraged to join in the fun, and even bring your own fun with you. Any scout that would like to bring any games, please contact Mr. Penner. We will be serving Hot Dogs and we ask you to bring a salad, desert, or some side dish.
At 6:30 PM, our Court of Honor will begin. We will present rank advancements and merit badges, and recognize our Scouts for other accomplishments. We also will present the 2011 Carl Petterson Leadership Award to a deserving senior Scout/young adult. All Scouts should attend, even if they have not earned any badges recently. The key to the patrol method is for Scouts to support each other as a group, and this is a great opportunity to do that.
As with all courts of honor, class A uniforms are required for Scouts and adult leaders.
Please be sure to bring any balance you have remaining for summer camp.
See you on Sunday!

In addition to the many Scouts recognized for their good citizenship last night, Troop 55′s Janyce Keyes was one of two adult Scouters who were honored to receive the 2012 District Award of Merit from Lenni Lenape District. This is a council award presented by districts to volunteer Scouters who have rendered noteworthy service to youth in Scouting, outside Scouting, or both.
Mrs. Keyes began her volunteer Scouting service in 1993, before most of our sons were born. In her 19th year as a Scouting volunteer, she is our district’s Friends of Scouting organizer, while simultaneously organizing our 50th anniversary celebration, and doing the phenomenal job we have come to know and appreciate. Add to this her heavy commitments to her church, and you will see why she has received this long overdue honor.
Congratulations, Mrs. Keyes!
